New Delhi: Congress MPs have backed the Government's stand on the Lokpal Bill and talks with Anna Hazare and his associates, sources have told CNN-IBN. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who along with Law Minister Salman Khurshid, has been involved in talks with Hazare associates Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Prashant Bhushan to arrive at a common Lokpal Bill draft, briefed the Congress MPs in Parliament on Thursday calling Team Anna's anti-corruption agitation a political challenge.
Mukherjee assured the MPs that the Government is talking with Team Anna to resolve the issue. He claimed that Team Anna has been trying to hijack the legislative functions while the Government was adamant on upholding parliamentary procedures.
The MPs said that Congress should launch a counter movement to tell the people the Government's efforts to curb corruption while handlelling the issue politically and added that all of them were united behind the Government's stand.
Rajya Sabha MP Prabha Thakur said that party and the Government have not been managing the media well, some thing with Team Anna has been able to do very successfully.
The legislators raised the issue of people picketing houses of MPs and the role of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (BJP) in the anti-corruption agitation.
