Mumbai: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi alleged on Thursday that the Congress was misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation. He also said the fact that the CBI questioned the Intelligence Bureau Director in connection with the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, it proves the institutions were being weakened for political gains.
"People, who cannot deal with democratic victory or loss, are trying to ruin the power of governance in India with the help of CBI. A few people might be bothered with the CBI but by misusing it the Congress is ruining the democracy in the country," he said in Mumbai.
IB Director Rajinder Kumar was interrogated by the CBI in connection with the Ishrat Jahan case on June 18. He, however, had denied any involvement in the case and had reportedly claimed that inputs on Ishrat and her associates were based on intercepts of terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Meanwhile, Modi had also earlier in the month challenged the Congress saying he was not afraid of the CBI. He had also hit out at the investigating agency calling it "Congress Bureau of Investigation". His remarks had come in the wake of the CBI indicting many senior officers and Gujarat leaders.
The Gujarat High Court has asked the CBI to complete its investigation in the Ishrat Jahan case and file its chargesheet in the court by July 4, 2013.
