Tumkur: Congress on Wednesday launched its 'connect with people' campaign across Karnataka with a call asking people to throw out the 'corrupt' BJP government and exhorted party workers to prepare for a possible Assembly poll.
Addressing a well-attended rally at Kora panchayat in this district as part of its 60-day 'Congress nadige-Janara Balige', prominent party leaders lashed out at the Yeddyurappa led BJP government "for indulging in corruption, maladministration and pushing the state into a debt trap."
AICC General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry took a dig at BJP Central leaders "for remaining silent over its government's corruption in Karnataka", but at the same time fighting against corruption at the national level.
Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa alleged that the state has been misleading people that the Centre meted it a step motherly treatment, in spite of the Centre releasing a lot of funds to Karnataka.
Former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleero, who inaugurated the rally said Congress has capability to oust the BJP government in the state in the next elections.
KPCC President G Parameshwara alleged government borrowings in the last three years totalled Rs 36,000 crore. Karnataka's debts now stood at a whopping Rs 92,000 crore, he said and demanded that Yeddyurappa explain to the people where this money had gone as it was not spent on development programs.
He also charged the BJP with reneging on its poll promises made in its manifesto in 2008.
Opposition Congress leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah urged party workers to be prepared to face Assembly polls, likely to be held any time as the government might collapse.
"If Congress comes to power in the state, Yeddyurappa will be sent to jail," he said.
