Defending the Narendra Modi government, which is under attack for not fulfilling several poll promises, Union Minister for Steel and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar on Monday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party never used slogans like 'Acche Din' during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign.
Briefing the media in Indore, Tomar said, "During 2014 Lok Sabha elections slogans like 'Acche din aayenge and Rahul nani ghar jayenge' were raised on social media. People on social media suggested these words to BJP leaders ahead of polls."
Tomar said the public brought 'Achhe Din' when they defeated the Congress in Lok Sabha elections.
'Acche din' was the most popular slogan of the BJP during Lok Sabha elections 2014 and it was used almost in all the public rallies during polls.
Prime Minister Modi had focused his entire campaign on defeating the Congress and bringing 'Acche Din'.
In fact after the Lok Sabha election results were announced, Modi had while addressing a public rally in Baroda on May 16, 2014 said that 'Acche Din aa gaye'.
Tomar's statement is likely to give more ammunition to BJP's rivals who have been claiming that Modi promised much during the election campaign but has failed to deliver. Modi's rivals have been calling him jumla (empty promise) babu after BJP President Amit Shah claimed that the Prime Minister never promised to bring back the black money from foreign banks and deposit Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of every Indian citizen.
