BBMP polls on August 22, big test for CM Siddaramaiah

It's the first big test for Bengaluru Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as the Congress attempts to capture power in the city that has caught the imagination of the world. Polls for 198 wards of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) are scheduled for August 22. The Congress believes the multiple scams of the past five years will help it beat the Bharatiya Janata Party this time.

Congress MLA and party spokesperson Priyank Kharge said, "Last five years been horrible for Bangalore, the BJP-ruled BBMP has not given any infrastructure to talk about. It's one of the fastest developing cities in the country and it is caught in a mess, solid waste management mess, bill misappropriation mess, fibre cable laying mess. BBMP in huge debt because of huge misappropriation by BJP."

The city has seen a scam in just about every aspect of civic administration over the last five years. But, the BJP thinks it holds the ace- it's planning to target the Congress over the mother of all scams -- the fake bill scam that is pegged at over Rs 1400 crore.

BJP spokesperson S Prakash said, "Its going to boomerang - it's their own MLA - Muniratnam involved in fake bill scam. He has taken anticipatory bail. Ramalinga Reddy is accusing BJP of corruption, he should look into his own backyard before pointing fingers at BJP."

Not to be outdone, Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal Secular got all its candidates to take an oath of integrity ahead of the election, a campaign strategy to position themselves as different from the others.
