As the war between the AAP and DCW chief Barkha Singh worsens, the Delhi government has sent its own recommendations for the high post to the L-G.

New Delhi: As the war between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Delhi Commission for Women chief worsens, the Arvind Kejriwal government has sent a recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor for the post of the DCW chief.

The Delhi government has proposed the name of eminent social activist and novelist Maitreyi Pushpa for the post of DCW chairperson.

The move came after the present DCW chief Barkha Singh said she will meet the Lieutenant Governor on Thursday over alleged threats from a lawyer representing the AAP, who apparently said that he will get her sacked.

"I have three more years of tenure and only the Lieutenant Governor can remove me from this post," Singh said.

According to sources, there will be more names recommended in the Delhi government's list, but Barkha Singh's name won't feature in it.

The sources say that the Delhi government has taken a call to not have anybody with a political background on the post.

Last week, Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti had gone on record to say that Singh should quit as she belonged to the Congress which had lost power in Delhi.

"DCW is a political organization. Barkha Singh is part of the Congress. She should have resigned when her party stepped down," he said. Bharti, however, retracted the comment later.

Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, however, will take the final call on selection.

Speaking on the issue, Kejriwal said, "Maitreyi Pushpa is a nice lady. So far the trend has been to have a person of political party holding the post. We want to break the trend."
