The BCCI on Thursday announced three different squads for the upcoming multi-format tour of South Africa starting later this month. There weren’t any major surprises with familiar names included barring Sai Sudharsan who has gotten a maiden ODI call-up.
However, former India cricketer RP Singh is ‘surprised’ why senior bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t made the cut in either of the white-ball squads arguing the pacer has looked in ‘great shape and spirit’.
“Am really surprised that @BhuviOfficial is not part of any of the white ball squads for South Africa tour. I have seen him closely this season and he looked in great shape and spirit,” RP posted on X (formerly Twitter) after the squad announcement.

Bhuvneshwar last played an international match in November 2022 and is currently representing Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he has taken eight wickets in three matches so far.
Bhuvneshwar has played 21 Tests, 121 ODIs and 87 T20Is since his international debut in December 2012 and he quickly made his name for ability to swing the new ball. He has taken a combined 294 wickets so far.
However, a combination of dip in form and injures have halted his India career with the selectors seemingly moving on to the next generation of fast bowlers.
India’s pace options for the T20Is include Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Deepak Chahar for the three matches in South Africa.
On the other hand, Chahar, Mukesh Arshdeep and Avesh Khan have been picked for the three ODIs with Bumrah, Shami and Siraj rested.
The tour gets underway from December 10.
