PM Modi, Dharmendra Pradhan HIGHLIGHTS: On his first day as the Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan met with directors of IITs, centrally-funded institutions (CFIs). The meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Over 100 heads of institutes joined the meeting from across the country. IITs, IISc, and top-ranking Indian institutes informed PM that they will be shortly offering courses in digital-only mode as well.
The discussions revolved around several aspects of education including the ranking of institutions to skill gap amid graduates, offering quality courses, setting up high-quality infrastructure among other deatils. All the three MoS Ministry of Education, Annpurna Devi, Dr Subhas Sarkar, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh were also part of the interaction between institutes, PM Modi and the new education minister held earlier today.
Pradhan has taken charge of the Education Ministry at a crucial time, not only have schools and colleges have been shut down, awaiting reopening but also there is a demand from students on the basis for revised dates of NEET 2021. Even though dates of JEE Main postponed sessions have been announced, students claim that the gap of mere 2-days between two sessions is not comfortable and seek deferment of JEE Main session four. NEET 2021 dates are expected to be among the first announcements by the Ministry of Education under new leadership.
