The Volkswagen Tiguan is one of the best-selling models in the Volkswagen Group, and its India debut is scheduled for 2024.
The new Tiguan is based on the Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB) ‘evo’ platform and measures 4539mm in length, 1639mm in height, and 1842mm in width. In addition, the wheelbase is 2680mm. Also, the new Tiguan is 4mm taller and 30mm longer than the previous generation.
Third-Gen Volkswagen Tiguan SUV: Features And Design
In terms of appearance, the SUV adopts Volkswagen’s new design language and offers a curvy shape in contrast to the outgoing model, which has boxy dimensions and straight lines. This revamped design has assisted Volkswagen in achieving a drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd (reduced from 0.33 Cd).
Furthermore, the new Tiguan has elegant IQ Light HD Matrix headlights that can deploy 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs. It also gets a thin LED strip that joins both headlights, as well as larger air intakes with a massive black panel in the centre. The Tiguan has an LED taillight with three distinct clusters integrated into a black strip extending across the tailboard. It also has newly designed 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that appear distinctive.
Third-Gen Volkswagen Tiguan SUV: Interior
Inside, the new Tiguan features a redesigned dashboard with a 15.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The gear selector is built into the steering column, and it also has a head-up display (HUD). There are massaging front seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, Park Assist Pro, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control, a rotary controller with an inbuilt OLED screen, remote parking capability, and much more.
Third-Gen Volkswagen Tiguan SUV: Powertrain And Gearbox
In terms of powertrain and gearbox, the new Tiguan is available with a variety of engines. It comes with 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel, and 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid engines. The plug-in hybrid features a 19.7 kWh battery pack and a pure-electric range of up to 100 kilometres, according to Volkswagen. All engines are mated with a 7-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) automatic gearbox, except for the plug-in hybrid, which has a 6-speed DSG.
The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan will be available at international dealerships in the first quarter of 2024, and a launch in India is expected to follow soon after. It will most likely be more expensive and will continue to compete with vehicles such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Hyundai Tucson.
