Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the music mogul currently behind bars awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, faces another legal battle as he is sued for allegedly drugging and raping a woman in 2001. The lawsuit, reportedly filed by Thalia Graves in a New York federal court, accuses Combs and his bodyguard of sexually assaulting her at Bad Boy Records’ New York studio. Graves has claimed that she was given a drink that made her lose consciousness. When she awoke, she found herself “bound and restrained” while being “brutally sexually abused and violated,” the complaint detailed.
Combs’ legal woes intensified last week when he was indicted on three counts, with prosecutors accusing him of operating a large-scale criminal enterprise. He has been accused of trafficking women and engaging in a “pervasive pattern of abuse” that included orchestrating sexual encounters between women and male sex workers flown in from various locations. Combs pled guilty to the charges, and his bail was denied over concerns that he posed a flight risk and danger to others, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) informed.
Graves’ complaint alleged that Combs enticed her to visit the studio under the guise of discussing her boyfriend’s issues at the company. Joseph Sherman, Combs’ bodyguard, picked her up and brought her to the studio.
As per THR, once there, Graves was offered a drink, which she claimed left her feeling “lightheaded, dizzy and physically weak.” According to the lawsuit, she lost consciousness and later awoke to find herself “naked, with her hands tied behind her back with what seemed to be a plastic grocery bag.” She recalled being “lifted up from the couch” and slammed face down onto a pool table by Sherman.
The complaint also accused Combs of having a history of recording women without their consent during sexual acts and distributing those tapes as pornography. A text message from a Bad Boy artist reportedly supported the claim, stating that Sherman “use[d] to sell porn of him doing this to chix” and that many women were subjected to similar treatment.
This lawsuit is among many brought against Combs, following accusations by singer Cassie Ventura, a former artist on his label, which led to a federal investigation into sex trafficking and racketeering. Several accusers have alleged that employees at Combs’ businesses, including Bad Boy president Harve Pierre, knew of and enabled these alleged crimes.
Currently, Sean Combs is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, notorious for its poor and dangerous conditions.“I’m glad he’s locked up, but that’s a temporary feeling of relief,” Graves stated during a press conference about her lawsuit.
