Wajah Tum Ho is more like an onion – under the flag name of a thriller – with layers and layers of crimes involved with the potential to bring you to tears. The tears that will roll down your cheeks by the end of the film are partly because of its predictability and partly due to its extreme dramatization. Like every other thriller in Bollywood, this film features a good man, a bad man, a good lady, a victim-turned-criminal and a non-ending series of twists.
The film is based on an incident where a news channel is hacked, followed by a series of murders that are live-streamed. The hacking is done by an unknown masked person – in an extremely over-the-top control room. Rajneesh Duggal plays Rahul Oberoi, owner of the news network, Sana Khan is Sia – his company’s legal advisor, Sharman Joshi as Kabir is the honest-to-god cop who is investigating this case and Gurmeet Choudhury - the state council, Ranvir – happens to be Sana’s boyfriend.
Now that the connections have been established, let’s try to understand the storyline – without giving away the twists and turns – which honestly makes the most part of this 2-hour-long film. Every scene ends with a twist and Sharman smiles as if he’s the Sherlock and that he has got his hands on clues – the most obvious ones in this case. And what makes it worse is that he really speaks his thoughts out loud.
The film loses you as instantly as it grips you, owing it to the over-practiced dialogue delivery and the forced love-making scenes. The timing is commendable, but the twists are way too predictable. Half-an-hour into the film and you know what is in store for you.
A lot has been stuffed into this film – from CEOs raping a woman in a garage to a tech guy explaining the functioning of media broadcasting - down to the level of the requirement of a fast internet connection. Apart from this, there are some obvious distractions in the film - how women dress up in offices (they wear sky-high heels) or how a little girl’s cuteness is overpowered by some inexplicable lines or how a bad cop has cruel lines to his credit just to make him look worse.
Just when the chemistry between Gurmeet and Sana begins to work out – dialogues like Baarish ko badal se alag hone ke liye ijaazat ki zarurat nahi hai begin to appear. Sharman as a dedicated cop delivers his lines well - especially the witty ones - but his pride comes out as a little forced. Rajneesh plays the ‘do you know who I’m’ man and takes it a little too far while approaching women.
Wajah Tum Ho doesn’t really have much to offer – not in terms of acting, screenplay or even direction. It’s only an elaborated version of ‘what’s happening?’.
