The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began with a blast on Friday, March 22. From Akshay Kumar to Tiger Shroff, actors, singers and performers from the entertainment industry enthralled the audience present at Chepauk. Among them were also Oscar-winning composer and singer AR Rahman as well as Sonu Nigam.
In a clip that is going viral on social media, AR Rahman took to the stage and crooned his iconic ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ with all the gusto. Sonu Nigam joined him by hitting all the right notes, accompanied with a performance galore unfurling around them. The crowd also hummed along with them, as they waved the respective flags of their teams. The opening ceremony truly marked the inception of yet another nail-biting season of cricket and rivalry. AR Rahman also continued with a solo performance with ‘Balle Lakka,’ followed by other renditions.

Meanwhile, following a laser show, Bollywood superstar, Akshay Kumar descended via zip-line and he had the Indian flag in his hand. Fellow actor, Tiger Shroff showed up and the two showcased their dance moves to jolt up the crowds. The two even took a round of the stadium on a motorcycle as they waved the national flag.
The entire city of Chennai was abuzz with expectation ahead of the season opener between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and the newly rebranded Royal Challengers Bengaluru from the neighbouring state. With deep running emotions and significance of mammoth proportions that accompany the encounter due to the long and rather testy relationship the sides share, the sides set out to train at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, the venue for the opener With the crowd heavier than usual on matchday eve due to the number of heads that have descended to the Tamil Nadu capital ahead of the curtain-raiser.
