Actor Vadivelu filed a defamation case against Singamuthu and sought Rs 5 crore for damages and a restraining order to prevent the alleged accused from passing any defamatory remarks. In a counter-petition submitted by Singamuthu before Justice RMT Teekaa Raman on Friday, in response to the defamation suit filed against him, he claimed that Vadivelu was trying to exact revenge because Singamuthu had written scripts for other actors. He also claimed that he has not used any words or made remarks to cause mental distress to Vadivelu.

Singamuthu mentioned that he has also apologised for the legal notice which was sent by Vadivelu’s lawyer regarding the issue. Further, he emphasised that he was the reason for Vadivelu’s success which earned him immense fame and money. He said, “We acted together in many Tamil films. I am a writer and orator and wrote comedy tracks for many actors including Vadivelu. I was behind his success in the industry.” The hearing has been postponed to October 24.

On the work front, Vadivelu marked his debut in the acting industry in 1988 with T. Rajendar’s En Thangai Kalyani at the career peak of the Goundamani-Senthil duo.
