Suhana Khan, Navya Nanda Strongly Condemn Kolkata Doctor's Brutal Rape and Murder: 'We Deserve Better'
Suhana Khan and Navya Naveli Nanda have voiced their anger and condemnation over the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata.

Bollywood actress Suhana Khan, along with Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Nanda, has voiced their deep outrage on Instagram in response to the tragic rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The horrifying incident, which has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompted Navya and Suhana to condemn the heinous crime and bring attention to the persistent and critical issue of women’s safety in India.

Taking to her Instagram stories on Thursday, Suhana shared a post by Navya Naveli Nanda. It read, “Yet another horrific rape has unfolded in front of our eyes. First and most importantly, let us pray for her and her family.Women have always played a very important role in the growth and development of our country. The workplace, the classroom and the home must be an enabling and safe space for us.Men and women need to unite against those mindsets and belief systems that continuously objectify women or think of them as easy prey.”

The post further read, “The times we are out at night or what we wear are NOT signs for anything other than the fact that we have a right to live our life the way we desire. And for this, we cannot be made to live in continued fear or under threat. While nothing can ever compensate the pain and suffering the doctor went through that day, we need to take concrete steps to ensure this NEVER happens again. Whether it’s stricter law enforcement or building safety protocols – steps need to be taken immediately. We deserve better. We will continue to fight for better. Because nothing and no one should ever be able to override the agency and dignity of women.”

Recently, Alia Bhatt also reacted to the brutal incident and issued a strongly worded statement to condemn it. “Another brutal rape. Another day of realisation that women are not safe, anywhere,” she wrote, drawing a direct comparison to the Nirbhaya tragedy that shook India over a decade ago. Despite the nationwide outcry and subsequent legal reforms, Alia emphasised that little has changed in terms of women’s safety.

The actress supported her statement with alarming statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2022 report. She pointed out that 30% of India’s doctors and 80% of the nursing staff are women, making them particularly vulnerable in an environment where violence against medical personnel is on the rise. She also highlighted the grim reality that since 2022, there has been a 4% increase in crimes against women, with over 20% of these involving rape and assault. Alia’s post further noted that nearly 90 rapes were reported daily in India in 2022, underscoring the pervasive nature of this violence.

The actress urged authorities to prioritise women’s safety, calling for the creation of safe spaces and increased protection measures. She criticized the societal structures that perpetuate such violence, stating that unless the root causes are addressed, nothing will change. Alia’s powerful message concluded with a call to action: “Don’t tell women to change their path—change the terrain. Every woman deserves better.” She stressed that women disproportionately bear the burden of ensuring their own safety, often with no real recourse or hope for change.
