Sohum Shah's Tumbbad Inches Close To The Rs 25-Crore Mark
Tumbbad was recently re-released in theatres, receiving a warm response from the audience.

Sohum Shah-starrer Tumbbad has finally found its much-deserved fame after re-releasing in theatres six years after its initial release. Not only has it broken its initial box office records for opening collections, but the film also continues to reign supreme in cinema halls. Tumbbad is now close to hitting the Rs 25-crore mark, making it the biggest collection for any re-release since 2000. With a strong week at the domestic box office, the movie is performing well above expectations.

According to Sacnilk, Tumbbad has made a remarkable comeback, collecting approximately Rs 11.50 crore during its second week, bringing the total re-release collection to Rs 24.50 crore net (Rs 29 crore gross).

In addition to this success, the film has doubled its original collection of Rs 13.50 crore net, marking yet another significant achievement. With its original earnings in mind, Tumbbad is closing in on the Rs 50-crore mark in the coming days. As Jr. NTR’s Devara: Part 1 hits theatres now, it remains to be seen if Tumbbad will experience a slowdown in collections. However, if it maintains its momentum, a healthy total is expected by the end of its run.

At its core, Tumbbad explores the haunting tale of a shrine dedicated to Hastar, a monstrous entity who must never be worshipped. Those who dare to covet his cursed wealth face dire consequences.

Tumbbad 2: The sequel

Following its successful run after the film’s re-release, Sohum Shah officially announced Tumbbad 2 with a video teaser. Featuring Vinayak and his son Pandurang, it consists of a voiceover that says, “Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega…darwaza bhi ek baar phir khulega. Pralay, Pralay phir aayega. (Time moves in circles. What happened in the past will return again… The door will reopen),” hinting at a darker and more large-scale sequel.

In a statement, Shah said, “With Tumbbad 2, we want to push the cinematic experience and boundaries even further. Tumbbad 2 will take audiences deeper into the world we’ve created, with bigger twists and a more intense exploration of what happens when greed knows no limits.”

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the film features Sohum Shah in the lead role of Vinayak Rao.
