Vedaa, starring Sharvari Wagh and John Abraham, is all set to make its OTT debut this week. The action-drama was released in theatres on August 15 and viewers can now enjoy it on OTT from October 10. Vedaa will be released on the streaming platform Zee5. Upon theatrical release, the film faced severe competition from Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s blockbuster Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein.
The official Instagram handle of the streaming platform ZEE5 announced the digital release of Vedaa. The announcement clip featured John Abraham and Sharvari running in a fast-paced adventure sequence while the catchy theme music played in the background. The text embedded on the video read “World Digital Premiere Vedaa Releasing Tomorrow.” The caption read, “In this fight for justice, she’ll be unstoppable. Watch #Vedaa releasing TOMORROW on #ZEE5!”
Clashing with two major films, Vedaa did not perform well in the Box Office. Speaking about its performance, John Abraham told Radio City, “It’s a brave film to do. I wanted to work with Nikkhil again after Batla House. Honestly, more than success and failure, it’s the message that you’re sharing via your film that’s more important. We’ve told it in an entertaining way, but there’s no getting around the fact that the subject is heavy. And if people aren’t interested in watching films with heavy subjects, that’s their choice. I respect it. But you have to face the subject at the end of the day.”
In addition to John Abraham and Sharvari, Abhishek Banerjee and Tamannaah Bhatia have significant roles in the film. Nikkhil Advani directed Vedaa and it was written by Aseem Arrora. It was produced by Umesh KR Bansal, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and John Abraham.
Inspired by real incidents, Vedaa delves into the dark and brutal world of caste-based violence and societal inequality. The film focuses on three major people caught up in a storm of societal injustice. The lead character Vedaa is played by Sharvari Wagh, who is a dedicated law student who has a strong interest in boxing. She leads a happy life with her sister Geetanjali, brother Vinod, and their parents until a series of events forces them into a nightmare existence. John Abraham plays the role of Abhimanyu Kanwar, a court-martialed army man whose life is tragically altered when his wife is ruthlessly murdered by terrorists.
