Ricky Martin Explains Why He Cancelled Argentina Tour Despite Packed Stadiums
Ricky Martin revealed that after nearly 200 concerts in two years, he reached a breaking point, felt exhausted and claimed he wouldn’t survive.

Ricky Martin, who has entertained millions over his three-decade-long music career, recently shared a pivotal moment on The Hollywood Reporter’s Roundtable with Anthony Mackie, Bowen Yang, John Goodman, Kelsey Grammer and Theo James. Martin recalled a challenging decision he made to prioritise his mental and physical health by backing out of a tour in Argentina at the last minute, despite pressure from his team to continue. After nearly 200 concerts in just two years, Martin felt exhausted and claimed he wouldn’t survive if he continued. This decision came when he was about to leave Australia to complete the final leg of the tour in Argentina.

Martin explained, “I left a tour I was exhausted, I was sad, I was depressed, I was not happy with what I was doing. I had been working for two years non-stop, 200 shows in two years. I was in Australia and we still had two more weeks to go. We had to go to Argentina to do the final and then everybody was going home. I like, ‘I’m not going to survive. I’m not going to if we go to Argentina. I’m going to collapse and I’m going to collapse bad, I need to go home now. Please listen to me, I need to go home.’ Everybody was like, ‘You’re crazy, we’re almost there, come on, let’s do this,’ and I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, you don’t understand, if we don’t go back home now, this is going to get ugly.’ I went back home and it was the best decision I ever made.”

Ricky Martin explained that he prioritised his mental and physical health when he decided to cancel the tour in Argentina. After years of feeling unable to say no and constantly pleasing others, he wanted to be home with his dogs. Last year, he no longer enjoyed performing on stage. Despite the packed stadiums and applause from the audience, he felt sad and was unable to continue.

Ricky Martin last appeared as Robert Diaz, a gay Korean War veteran in Palm Royale season 1 opposite Kristen Wiig, Carol Burnett and Laura Dern.
