A new trend is emerging in the Tamil film industry where successful films of famous actors are being re-screened in theatres on their birthdays and anniversaries. This trend is garnering a fantastic response among fans, leading theatre owners to prioritise these special screenings.

In recent weeks, several films have been re-released in theatres across Puducherry, drawing enthusiastic responses from audiences. Notable screenings include Rajinikanth’s action-packed drama Annaamalai, Vijay’s hit Thirumalai, Suriya’s poignant Vaaranam Aayiram, Karthi’s thrilling adventure Aayirathil Oruvan and R. Madhavan’s romantic classic Minnale.

The latest addition to this trend was the re-release of Ajith-starrer psychological romantic thriller Vaalee in Puducherry theatres on February 23. The film received immense appreciation from fans once again.

Directed by S. J. Suryah in his directorial debut, Vaalee featured Ajith Kumar in dual roles, with cameo appearances by Simran and Jyothika, marking her Tamil debut. The film also starred Vivek, Rajeev, Pandu, and Sujitha in pivotal supporting roles. Jeeva handled the cinematography, while B. Lenin and V. T. Vijayan edited the film.

Vaalee hit theatres on April 30, 1999, receiving positive reviews from critics and becoming a commercial success, running for over 270 days. Ajith received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor—Tamil, and Jyothika won Best Female Debut—South for their performances. The movie was later remade in Kannada in 2001 under the same title.

Meanwhile, Ajith is currently engrossed in shooting for the upcoming Tamil-language action thriller Vidaa Muyarchi. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner of Lyca Productions, the film features Ajith Kumar in the lead role, alongside Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, and Arav in pivotal roles.

Principal photography for Vidaa Muyarchi began in October 2023 and is predominantly being shot in Azerbaijan. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music, while Nirav Shah and Om Prakash handle the cinematography, with editing by N. B. Srikanth.

This resurgence of beloved classics alongside updates on Ajith’s latest project has sparked excitement among fans, showcasing the enduring appeal of Tamil cinema.
