Sudesh Berry was one of the prominent faces both on the silver and small screen. The Refugee actor began his acting career with TV. He first starred as Vichitravirya in BR Chopra’s magnum opus mythology drama, Mahabharat. After his role, he signed many projects for the small screen and at the same time, tried his luck in Bollywood, garnering fame and stardom. Did you know that he was one of the choices for the lead actor in Darr before Shah Rukh Khan was roped in?

In 1993, Yash Chopra released a romantic psychological thriller starring Bollywood’s romantic hero, Shah Rukh Khan, opposite Juhi Chawla. While it was a huge risk for the Deewana actor to play a negative role, his intense acting and a certain level of obsession with his lady love showcased his versatility and left the audience impressed. Not many may know this but before Shah Rukh Khan, the role was initially offered to Sudesh Berry.

In an interview with the Times of India (TOI), Sudesh Berry shared that he was approached for the role of Rahul Mehra. But he had to turn down the offer due to undisclosed reasons. However, the actor revealed that he does not regret not being a part of the film. Instead, he was happy with the slow speed of his career. He said, “I have worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan and many other actors, but I think my outlook towards life is that of a tortoise. Shah Rukh ran like a rabbit and achieved huge success, but today, I am happy with what I have. The producers of Darr wanted to cast me in the same role that Shah Rukh Khan played, but for some reason, I did not do the film. I am a firm believer in destiny and I think only God can plan your life. That’s why I take life as it is.”

As per reports, Sudesh Berry never ran after the lead role. Instead, he chose the character as per his choice in the films. Reportedly, the actor has refused to do more than 200 films in his career, of which, Darr turned out to be a blockbuster.

Sudesh Berry was always interested in boxing. During his college days, he used to participate in boxing championships. In an interview, he once revealed that his opponent knocked him down and he lost consciousness. When his father came to know about it, he asked his son to quit the sport. Later, a friend took him to an acting workshop. He liked it a lot. Gradually, he got involved in plays and then joined the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA). Sudesh Berry has starred in films like Vansh, Border, Army and LOC: Kargil to name a few.
