Veteran music composer Vipin Reshammiya, father of renowned composer and actor Himesh Reshammiya, passed away on September 18 in Mumbai at the age of 87. A respected figure in the music industry, Vipin played a crucial role in shaping his son’s career from a young age, acting as a mentor and guiding Himesh to success. His last rites are scheduled for September 19.
Vipin Reshammiya had been suffering from breathing issues and was hospitalized in Mumbai before his passing. His last rites will take place in Juhu, and the mortal remains will be brought home soon.
Vanitha Thapar, reflecting on her close bond with Vipin, shared her grief with ETimes: “He was in Kokilaben and passed away today at 8.30 pm. I am a family friend, more like family. I used to call him papa since the time he was making TV serials. Later, he became a music director, and then Himesh followed in his footsteps. We share a very close bond. Anup Singh, the numerologist, and I were also very close to him.”
Despite his own talents as a composer, Vipin chose not to pursue a full-fledged music career, opting instead to help Himesh hone his skills. His work on TV shows earned him recognition, but his primary focus remained supporting his son’s artistic journey. Vipin once shared his pride in Himesh’s musical abilities, which were evident from a young age.
For those unfamiliar with Vipin Reshammiya’s contributions to the industry, he worked as a producer on The Xposé (2014) and Teraa Surroor (2016), both films starring his son, Himesh Reshammiya. Vipin also composed music for an unreleased film titled Insaaf Ka Suraj (1990). According to reports, Himesh once shared that his father and Salman Khan were supposed to collaborate on a film, which led to Himesh’s introduction to the Bollywood superstar. It was through this connection that Himesh landed his first major break as a music director in the 1998 film Jab Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, starring Salman Khan and Kajol.
In a 2021 Instagram post, Himesh revealed an interesting piece of his father’s musical legacy. He shared that Vipin Reshammiya had composed a song that featured vocals by the legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. Sadly, the track was never released.
Himesh described the song as “one of the finest classic melodies of all time” and wrote, “My dad, composer Vipin Reshammiya, had composed a beautiful track quite a few years back, sung by the legendary Lataji and Kishore Kumar ji. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be released then…”
