'Mother Of Dragons' Emilia Clarke Reveals Why She Still Can't Watch House Of The Dragon
Emilia Clarke explained that her time on the show makes the idea of watching its prequel somewhat unsettling.

Actress Emilia Clarke is a household name after her iconic role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s wildly popular series Game of Thrones. The ‘Mother of Dragons’ recently shared her thoughts about the show’s prequel, House of the Dragon. Even though the series, currently in its second season, has received a lot of acclaim and has impressed many fans, Clarke has said that she is not able to watch it. In a conversation with PEOPLE, Clarke, 37, said that she is still reluctant to watch House Of The Dragon.

The new series has just returned for its second season as of June 16. “I still can’t. I just don’t know what it is,” she admits.

Talking about her experience in Game of Thrones, Clarke explained that her time on the show makes the idea of watching its prequel somewhat unsettling. “I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd, I think,” said Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, the wife of Khal Drogo, portrayed by actor Jason Momoa.

Despite her reservations about watching House of the Dragon, Clarke added that she is fully supportive of the spinoff. She also expressed happiness for the show’s success, saying, “I really do fully support the entire thing and everyone who’s made it, and it’s beautiful how successful it’s been. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Apart from her acting stints, the Me Before You star has recently taken on a new role as Pegasus Distillerie’s global brand ambassador.

The first season of House of the Dragon premiered in August 2022. It is a prequel to Game of Thrones, which aired from 2011 to 2019. The new series deals with the events that lead to the fall of House Targaryen. It starts about a century after the Targaryen conquest united the Seven Kingdoms. This timeline sets the show nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 172 years before the birth of Clarke’s character, Daenerys.

The key cast of House of the Dragon includes Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Rhys Ifans. The first season of the series received critical acclaim and earned nominations for outstanding drama series at the 2024 Emmy Awards. It was also nominated at the Golden Globe Awards, the Critics’ Choice Television Award, and the SAG Awards. The first season consisted of 10 episodes, while the second season has eight episodes.
