Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan was released yesterday, June 27, and it is already a blockbuster hit. However, did you know that superstar NTR also has a connection with the film, especially with its production house, Vyjayanthi Movies?
In a candid interview series before the film’s release, the entire cast and producers Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt, shared their experiences and insights into the ambitious project. Kamal Haasan revealed how the owner of Vyjayanthi Movies, C. Aswini Dutt, became a producer and how NTR has a connection with the producers.
Talking about the backstory, Kamal Haasan mentioned, “He (C. Aswini Dutt) just went and stood in front of NTR’s house for so many days that he noticed his face and he said, ‘Why is this young man here? He seems educated.’ And he called him in, and that’s how the connection started, and he became a producer for NTR. And the name Vyjayanti Films was given by Mr. NTR.”
Meanwhile, directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki 2898 AD has created history at the box office by becoming the third biggest opener in Indian cinema as it has collected a massive Rs 180 crore-plus on its opening day, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.com.
As per the industry tracker, Kalki 2898 AD earned around Rs 95 crore net in India on its first day for all languages, while its gross collection is estimated around Rs 115 crore. Overall, the film has grossed over Rs 180 crore worldwide on day 1. With this massive collection, Kalki 2898 AD has surpassed the global opening records of KGF 2 (Rs 159 crore), Salaar (Rs 158 crore), Leo (Rs 142.75 crore), Sahoo (Rs 130 crore) and Jawan (Rs 129 crore). RRR still remains the highest Indian opener with Rs 223 crore collections, followed by Baahubali 2 which grossed over Rs 217 crore on its opening day.
News18 Showsha rated the film 4/5 and was all praise for Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas’ performances in the film. Our reviewer said, “Kalki is an out-and-out Amitabh film. Even though we see very little of him in the first half, the actor’s screen time increases in the second half. The intensity with which he delivers his dialogues is worth praising. Prabhas’ Bhairava and Bujji add an element of humour to Kalki 2898 AD. Even though Prabhas’ action sequences in the first half lack energy, he stuns all with his fierce avatar in the second half of the film. His face-off with Amitabh surely deserves a special mention and is one of the major highlights of the film.”
A unique blend of Hindu mythology and science fiction, Kalki 2898 AD revolves around a modern avatar of Lord Vishnu, who has descended on Earth to protect the world from the forces of evil.
