Jonathan Majors broke his silence on Robert Downey Jr replacing him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Majors was set up as the central villain of MCU Phase 5 and 6. The actor played Kang. But due to Majors’ harassment and assault allegations, Marvel Studios pulled a plug on his future in the franchise and brought back RDJ to the MCU. He will play the role of Doctor Doom.
Majors was asked if he was hurt by Marvel Studio’s decision, he admitted he was. “Yeah, heartbroken, of course,” he told TMZ. Addressing Downey Jr replacing him as the MCU villain in the upcoming Avengers films, Majors said, “I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.”
The publication pointed out that Downey Jr was given another chance, despite his legal troubles. To which Majors said, “I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love … and [he’s] being allowed to work [his] art and be creative at that level.”
“I didn’t get that…” Majors added.
The international actor added that he would be open to making an MCU comeback if given a chance. “Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang,” he said.
“If that’s what the fans want, and that’s what Marvel wants then let’s roll. Hell yeah,” Majors added.
Why Was Jonathan Majors Replaced in the MCU?
Jonathan Majors was arrested in March 2023 after his then girlfriend Grace Jabbari accused him of assaulting her in a car. She allegedly took his phone to read a message from another woman. The actor allegedly tried to forcefully nab the phone and in the process, he reportedly broke her middle finger. He also allegedly hit her.
What Legal Troubles Did Robert Downey Jr Face?
In 1996, RDJ was caught with heroin, cocaine and an unloaded gun. He was put on a three-year probation. He faced numerous legal issues and was also in rehab. He was cleared of his charges before he took up the role of Iron Man and kicked off the MCU.
Downey Jr bowed out of the MCU in 2019 as Iron Man after Avengers: Endgame. Over the weekend, it was revealed that he will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.
