Malayalam cinema is coming up with a new horror comedy titled Sumathi Valavu, which is being made by the team of Malikappuram. Going by the latest updates on the release, the film’s all India distribution rights have been acquired by a prominent banner, Dream Big Films. The production is known for distributing blockbusters like Jawan, Jailer, Leo, Ponniyin Selvan 2 and Manjummel Boys. As per more reports, Sumathi Valavu is expected to release on the occasion of Christmas, this year. The horror comedy is set in the period of the 19th century and its shooting is going to be done in places like Palakkad, Munnar, Kumily, Kambam, Theni and Vattavada. It is set to go on floors this August.
The film will delve into the story of a place named Sumathi Valavu and how it is being protected by the spirit of a Tamil woman named Sumathi, who belonged to the 19th century.
It is being made under the direction of Vishnu Sasi Shankar, while Abhilash Pillai is the writer. The film stars Arjun Ashokan and Malavika Manoj as the protagonists. It also includes names like Saiju Kurup, Devananda, Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, Jean Paul Lal, Gopika Anil along with Shyam Mohan and Akhila Bhargavan. The music is under Ranjin Raj and the cinematographer is Dinesh Purushothaman while Shafiq Muhammad Ali is doing the editing. Sri Murali Kunnumpurath is producing the film under the banner of Waterman Films.
The film’s male lead Arjun Ashokan took to Instagram to share the exclusive title unveiling clip, back in May. The clip features animated stills of a sailing ship, men riding through a dark forest, a map, a scenic sunset behind a mountain and finally the spirit, adorned in a saree. The caption on the post reads, “Seeking everyone’s blessings & sharing with so much of excitement. From the makers of Malikappuram.”
