The moment you say the name Kader Khan, what comes to mind is his villainous roles in the '80s or his comedic turns in the '90s. He has played a variety of roles in his over 4 decades of acting career, which also included him dancing and lip syncing to numerous songs.
He is one of those rare character actors who's had songs picturised solely on him, complete with choreographed steps, special sets, props and backup dancers. His songs often provided a comic relief in a rather serious Bollywood drama. Almost every comedy that he did with Govinda had at least one entertaining song sequence involving the two.
Take for example the famous qawwali muqabla with Govinda in Dulhe Raja, or the parody song in Shatranj - Kader is as effervescent in song sequences as he is in a funny scene. We have put together a list of some of his memorable songs, a list you can come back to watch anytime you need some mood lifting.
Kaha Raja Bhoj Kaha Gangu Teli - Dulhe Raja
Matching steps with Govinda isn't easy, but Khan did it with such confidence, adding oodles of fun to this song duel where he is desperate to defeat his eager-to-be damaad. His thumkas are no less than those of the red sari clad women behind him. Check it out:
Suno Sasurji, Ab Zid Chodo - Dulhe Raja
Another gem from the hit film, this song has a peeved Kader Khan tired of Govinda's tricks and pranks. Makes for a fun watch anytime.
Paisa Bolta Hai - Kaala Bazaar
Two legendary comedians - Johnny Lever and Kader Khan - in the same frame provided some comic relief in a rather grim film about corruption in Indian society.
Parody Song - Shatranj
Khan creates a romantic comedy mood with this parody of a classic song in this hit family drama.
Meri Dukan Pe Aana Meri Jaan - Pyar ka Devta
The actor is once again seen in a rom-com situation, trying to woo his lady love, who insists on calling him Kader Khan while he is eager on establishing his identity as the romantic Pritam.
Aunty No.1 title track
Govinda dancing as a woman might be the focus here, but his attempts to dodge Khan's romantic advances makes this a hilarious watch.
Umar Pachpan Ki Dil Bachpan Ka - title track
One of Kader Khan's two roles in this film is chased by young women as he tries to convince them that he is too old for romance now.
Anjan Ki Seeti - Maa
Long before Sonam Kapoor danced to Anjan Ki Seeti in her film Khoobsurat, one version of this Rajasthani folk song was picturised on Kader Khan in this horror drama film.
Dulhe Ka Sehra - Dhadkan
Khan got the rare honour of lip syncing to the legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in this wedding song sequence. Dhadkan's music was a big hit and this one is definitely one of the most well-known songs from the film.
Ghanan Ghanan Jab Ghanta Bole - Badhaai Ho Badhaai
This is not exactly listed as a song in the film's soundtrack, but it makes for a hilarious sequence where Khan is shown as a crazy musician and neighbours are terrified of his singing.
Kader Khan passed away due to prolonged illness at the age of 81 on December 31.
