Sunscreen: Overhyped Or Worth The Hype?
In this fluctuating weather and the temperature being above par, the significance of sunscreen cannot be emphasized enough

Sunscreen, once optional, has now become an essential part of our lives. Gone are the days of careless sunbathing and not considering the potential harms of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. In this fluctuating weather and the temperature being above par, the significance of sunscreen cannot be emphasized enough.

Sunscreen has become a hot topic of discussion, and this shift in public opinion can be attributed to the growing concerns  about premature aging, skin cancer and depletion of ozone layer. As a result, sunscreen has gained popularity among the general public, beauty enthusiasts and health professionals. Dr. Samridhi Sharma, Clinical Research Associate & Skin Expert, FCL Skincare takes us through why using sunscreen cannot be understated:

Using sunscreens regularly can definitely make a difference on the skin. Sunscreens may not help right after the immediate use but applying it regularly can help combat several skin woes. It protects the skin barrier from UV radiations, prevents sunburn that damages the skin cells , irregular pigmentation, premature aging, and inflammation. Dermatologists recommend using broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and reapplying every 3 hours even on cloudy days.

The beauty and skincare industry has also responded accordingly to the growing concern and the skin conscious generation. From different sunscreens for different skin types to sunscreen – infused beauty products flooding the market. From sunscreen infused moisturizers and foundations to SPF lip balms, sunscreen has now become an omnipresent ingredient in the beauty industry. According to Shaily Mehrotra, CEO and Co-founder of Fixderma, “The beauty industry is constantly revolutionizing, and with this woke generation and its focus on skincare and beauty, it is necessary to catch up to young needs. We’re seeing a significant shift in consumer behavior, with people seeking out products that not only make them look good but also protect them from external damages”.

In this skincare conscious generation, sunscreen has gained the most popularity, and honestly it is all worth the hype. From lightweight formulas to sustainable packaging, the beauty industry is doing its best to make it your everyday essential. Sunscreen has now become a self care essential. According to the dermatologists, the dangers of UV radiation are slow, subtle and long term, and wearing sunscreen everyday is the one of the best things one can do for himself.
