Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won starrer Queen of Tears has been ruling as one of the top-ranking dramas. The tvN romantic comedy series, which also premiered on Netflix, has witnessed a popularity boost since its first episode and the excitement among viewers continues to rise. From the interesting storyline to the unexpected cameos, everything has fallen into place for Queen of Tears. Speaking of which, the show has smashed another major record to become the third highest-rated K-dramas in tvN’s history. Not only in the domestic market but the show has also performed well in the global market.
Following the premiere of its latest episode on Sunday, April 7, the show soared to its highest rating, leaving many other leading shows in the dust. It surpassed hit shows like Reply 1988 to achieve the position. Presently, it is outranked by two major hit dramas Crash Landing on You and Goblin, both of which have surpassed the 20 per cent mark.
According to the data released by Nielsen Korea, the latest episode of Queen of Tears witnessed an average nationwide rating of 19.0 per cent, making it the most-watched program of any kind to air on Sunday. Grabbing the top position in Netflix’s non-English segment, the show had 4.3 million views this week.
On the other hand, according to the Good Data Corporation weekly list of TV dramas, Queen of Tears has also retained its top spot for the fourth consecutive week. Besides the rating and the viewership, the show’s popularity is also evident on social media, where viewers share their views and continue to heap praise on the show and the actors.
Queen of Tears features actors Kim Soo Hyun as Baek Hyun Woo and Kim Ji Won as Hong Hae In as a married couple who struggle with their marriage while navigating a crisis that threatens their relationship. The first half of the drama shows their marriage going through a drift; however, the revelation of Hae In’s terminal illness is what leads to a sudden shift.
Besides the complexities of their relationship, the recent episodes also saw a cameo from Song Joong Ki’s Vincenzo, which made fans go crazy. As the show now enters the second half of its season, it is yet to be seen how the story takes shape.
