Mumbai: Chandigarh Comets made a stunning comeback, after being 0-2 down within ten minutes, to whip Mumbai Marines 5-2 and score their first victory at the World Series Hockey at the MHA-Mahindra Stadium here on Sunday.

The Comets should have won by a much bigger margin but the Marines captain and goalkeeper Adrian D'Souza made some excellent saves to keep the scoreline 5-2. Comets won the match without the services of their Pakistan import Rehan Butt, who got injured early in the match and was taken to the hospital for a scan.

The Comets, who came into the match after having lost their opening two matches, paid the price for taking a little too much time to settle down as Marines put the ball twice into the net. But the Comets stormed back into the game, equalising before half-time, and then scoring four more goals.

Gurjinder Singh scored a brace for the visiting team, their second and third efforts, after his colleague Sukhwinder Singh notched up the Comets' first goal. Sukhwinder later completed the tally by converting a penalty stroke at the fag end. The fourth goal for Chandigarh was struck by Ranjodh Singh.

Earlier, the Marines were off to a great start through their midfielder Marshal Troy Sutherland (3rd minute) and striker Joga Singh (8th).

Marines, who came into the game after a 1-0 victory over Bhopal Badshahs on Saturday, looked by far the better outfit in the initial stages before ceding ground from the second quarter.
