Mihir Shah, the prime accused in the Worli BMW hit-and-run case, called his girlfriend at least 40 times shortly after he allegedly rammed his luxury vehicle into a scooter which resulted in the death of a woman.
The police say that his girlfriend may be detained now for questioning in the case.
According to media reports, on the fateful morning of the crash, Shah spoke to his girlfriend 40 times after which he abandoned the car, hailed an auto and headed to her house.
Mihir, who was allegedly driving the BMW car which fatally knocked down a woman, was drunk at the time of the crash.
The deceased victim Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and her husband Pradeep were hit by Mihir Shah while the couple was on their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area Sunday morning.
According to the police, Nakhwa was dragged for around 1.5 km by the speeding car before Mihir pulled it over, swapped seats with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat and fled in another vehicle. The driver allegedly ran over her while reversing the BMW.
Mihir Shah Sent to Police Custody Till July 16
Mihir Shah, son of a Shiv Sena politician – Rajesh Shah has been sent to police custody till July 16. The absconding accused was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, he was produced before chief metropolitan magistrate (Sewri court) S P Bhosale, who sent him to police custody.
During the hearing, the police told the court it was a “cruel, heartless crime”. They said the accused should be given maximum custody as they need to probe who helped him to escape and also since the car’s number plate is yet to be recovered.
How Did Mihir Shah Evade Arrest
According to an NDTV report, Shah left the car in Kala Nagar after which the 24-year-old hailed an auto and went to his girlfriend’s house in Mumbai’s Goregaon.
The police said that Mihir “rested” there for two hours while his girlfriend informed Shah’s sister about the accident.
His sister went to Goregaon and then took Shah to their house in Borivali.
From there, Shah’s mother, Meena, his two sisters – Puja and Kinjal – and a friend, Avdeep, left for a resort in Shahpur, nearly 70 km from Mumbai. They hid there while the police kept looking for Shah, having arrested his father Rajesh Shah and the driver, Bidawat.
