Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy Vari Devasthanam Temple located on the Simhachalam Hill, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh is currently in the headlines. According to Local 18 Telugu, throughout the years, many devotees visit this holy shrine. After reaching this place, the devotees place stones at the top of the hill. The believers staunchly believe that if they want to build their own house, putting stones at the top of the hill will make their wish come true.
Due to this belief, the people have continued with the act of keeping stones at the topmost region of Simhachalam. Now, both sides of the road, leading to this hill has been filled with a large number of stones. People marvel at the belief of the believers who arrive at Simhachalam Hill and indulge in this ritual to accomplish the dream of owning their house. Once their aspirations have been completed, they come again to this place to convey their gratitude to the Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped here as Varaha Narasimha.
A lot of devotees claimed that their wish of owning their homes had been completed after they placed a stone at the top of Simhachalam hill. The visuals captured by Local 18 show that innumerable stones have been placed at the rocks at the top of the Simhachalam.
Besides this story, there is another legend related to it. As per reports, Sri Kantha Krishnamacharyulu was a poet and musician who composed sankeertanas in praise of Varaha Narasimha. When the philosopher Ramanuja visited Simhachalam later, Krishnamacharyulu did not treat him properly. Ramanuja wanted to know whether Lord Vishnu would grant him salvation and requested the 13th-century bard to ask Lord Narasimha about the same. He obeyed and asked Narasimha, to which the deity replied that Ramanuja is capable of giving salvation to others and hence can gain the same later.
At this time, the Telugu language’s first Vaggeyakara requested Lord Narasimha to grant him salvation. To teach him a lesson, Lord Vihsnu refused, saying that Ramanuja was the only one capable one to do so. Krishnamacharyulu was offended and cursed that the temple would be attacked in the upcoming days. It is believed that the attack on the temple in the 18th century by Muslim invaders was a result of the curse.
