New Delhi:The issue of Uttar Pradesh police's alleged snooping on former prime minister VP Singh has snowballed into a huge controversy, which has even forced the Mulayam Singh Government to order an inquiry into the incident.
Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal has gone on record, claiming that the three detained Ghaziabad policemen said they were tailing VP Singh in Delhi on Sunday to find out whether he was going to Uttar Pradesh.
The two policemen belonged to the Ghaziabad intelligence unit of Uttar Pradesh Police and were detained by Delhi Police.
On Tuesday, the Centre expressed concern over the incident. Jaiswal met the former prime minister on Tuesday and inquired about the incident, which took place on Sunday. The former prime minister had earlier complained to the Centre that he was being tailed.
"I came to know about it from the media... VP Singh is a respected leader and a former prime minister of the country... The matter will be investigated," Jaiswal said.
Delhi Police Commissioner KK Paul has also sent a report to the Union Home Ministry, informing about the incident.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said in Lucknow on Tuesday that his government would conduct an inquiry into the incident.
