New Delhi: It has been a tumultuous time at Nokia ahead of Nokia World, the company's annual showcase event. First, there was the announcement of Stephen Elop replacing Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo as the CEO, followed by Nokia's mobile phones chief Anssi Vanjoki putting down his papers.
The world's largest mobile phone manufacturer has been under pressure in the smartphone segment where it competes against the likes of the Apple iPhone and Android devices such as the Motorola Droid.
Nokia World this year is happening in London on September 14-15, and would give the company an opportunity to re-establish itself in the world of high-end phones.
At the centre of this year's Nokia World will be the Symbian^3 operating system and the devices built around it. The the first Symbian^3 handset, Nokia N8, announced earlier in the year is expected to create the most buzz. Also in the limelight can be the yet unannounced C7 and the rumoured E7. Reports of the Nokia C6-01 making an appearance in London has also been floating around.
There is also a likelihood of some announcements around Nokia and Intel's Linux-based open source operating system MeeGo. But the best of MeeGo may be held back till November, when the MeeGo Conference takes place in Dublin, Ireland.
Nokia's concept phone Nokia U may also make an appearance as a prototype. While the specs for the "Design by Community" effort look promising, tech enthusiasts would like a look at a working model.
Nokia's netbook Booklet 3G was the star of Nokia World 2009 and with 2010 being the year of the tablet PC, Nokia could also have a tablet ace up its sleeve.
