Vidisha: A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA was seen scolding a policeman during a Holi event in Vidisha town of Madhya Pradesh after he objected to the use of guns at the function.
The policeman, an assistant sub inspector, had objected as bringing the gun was in violation of the model code of conduct, officials said.
But Sironj MLA Umakant Sharma, who is the brother of Vyapam scam-tainted Laxmikant Sharma, was in no mood to listen.
A video of the incident shows the lawmaker asking the policemen, “What kind of Hindus you are, you don’t know about Hindu tradition.”
He was surrounded by his supporters, who raised slogans against administration while others recorded the incident on their mobile phones. Locals said that the incident took place during Holi Dahan on Wednesday.
The Sironj area has a tradition of lighting up Holi pyre with gunshots.
