ADILABAD/NIZAMABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has called upon the people in Adilabad to vote for the Congress if they wanted to have development in their constituency. He was addressing a public meeting in Adilabad, as part of campaigning for party candidate C Ramachandra Reddy who is contesting the bypolls.Launching a tirade against the TDP president, he said that farmers, BPL families and minorities suffered a lot due to 'misgoverance' by Chandrababu Naidu.He listed out various development programmes taken up under the Congress like the `1-a-kg, interest free loans to women groups, loans to farmers, pensions to the poor, physically handicapped and others. Under the NREGS, an amount of Rs 9.70 crore was released and works worth Rs 1.14 crore were provided to people in the district during the last five years, the chief minister said. Kiran Reddy promised to give 50 per cent reservation to women in the upcoming local body polls.On Arogyasri, he said that 13 lakh families benefited through it in the state.He said that he and his counterpart in Maharashtra would soon hold a meeting to discuss on Pranahita-Chevella. BC welfare minister B Saraiah, Nirmal MLA E Maheshwar Reddy and other leaders were present.NIZAMABAD: The chief minister addressed a public meeting in Kamareddy on behalf of the Congress candidate Edla Raja Reddy on Wednesday. He promised to develop Kamareddy constituency if the Congress was voted to power. The Pranahita-Chevella project, Kiran Reddy said, would provide irrigation to 80,000 acres in the constituency and 16 lakh acres in Telangana once completed. The project will be completed within six years, he said.Later, he listed out the various development programmes and schemes being implemented by the Congress government and urged people to make use of them.From Jan 1, 2012 onwards, the government has been giving zero per cent interest loans to SHGs paying 14 per cent interest to banks. Record number of unemployed youths secured jobs through Rajiv Udyoga Kiranalu, he claimed. Throughout the chief minister's speech, party candidate Raja Reddy stood on the dais as a mark of respect to Kiran Reddy.Earlier, former PCC chief and MLC D Srinivas said the Congress government had provided drinking water to 215 villages in Kamareddy constituency through the SRSP. This apart, `40 crore has been recently sanctioned to the constituency for drinking water requirements, he reminded. Former minister Mohammed Shabbir Ali, major irrigation minister P Sudarshan Reddy, government whip A Anil and other local leaders were present.
