KOTTAYAM: Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that it is unfair on the part of public men to frown upon media criticism. He was inaugurating a meet to commemorate the late lensman Victor George on the occasion of his tenth death anniversary, organised by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) at the Kottayam Press Club here on Saturday. The minister also felt that the new trends in the media world would strengthen the democratic system of the country. He said that leaders in all spheres of society had to become amenable to social audit and public scrutiny. “Public men should have the resilience to combat with public queries. There are sections of people who are bewildered whenever there are queries from the media. The approach isanti-democratic. Singing paeans is not the duty of the media. Transparency is inevitable for smooth governance,” he observed.KUWJ state president K C Rajagopal presided over the function. Paul Manalil, Assistant Editor, Malayala Manorama delivered the commemoration speech. Press Club president R Rajiv welcomed the gathering and joint secretary Robin P Thomas proposed a vote of thanks.
