PUDUCHERRY: Pandemonium prevailed at the Chief Secretariat here on Friday after Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi activists forcibly tried to enter the building, injuring a policeman and a security guard in the process. Both the secretariat employees and the VCK activists resorted to separate protests after the incident. It all began when five VCK activists tried to enter the Chief Secretariat to submit a representation to the Chief Secretary M Sathiyavathy, who was not present in her office at that time. They were stopped by the police and a security guard at the main entrance, saying they cannot enter through the gate as it was meant only for the VVIPs and the staff due to security reasons. The VCK activists, who were told to enter via the rear gate, refused to budge and entered into a heated argument with the security men. In the commotion that followed, the VCK members assaulted the policeman and the security guard.Following this, the secretariat staff went on a flash sit-in protest demanding arrest of culprits and adequate protection to the staff. The VCK members, whose numbers swelled, also staged a dharna in the vicinity of the Secretariat demanding entry into the building. Police personnel, led by Superintendent of Police (North) N T Sivadasan rushed to the spot and tried to pacify both sides. Tahsildar Ramesh spoke to the VCK leader S Pavanan and requested him to meet the Chief Secretary for submitting the representation. The secretariat staff later withdrew from the dharna following assurances of stringent action.SP (North) N T Sivadasan said two cases were registered against the VCK activists.
