It was a proud moment for the students and teachers of Valliammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Anna Nagar East when it received the International School Award given by the British Council of India in a function held recently at New Delhi. Honourable Minister for Education of Madhya Pradesh Archana Chritis and Sankar, Director of Primary Education, were present at the function. The guest of honour was Richard Stagg from the UK. Principal Geetha Ramasubramanian and ISA coordinator KC Padmapriya received the award at the function.The year 2010-2011 has been an eventful one for Valliammal. Various activities in various subjects were conducted to create international knowledge in the young minds. Exchange of information about various animals in Singapore, Russia, USA and Malaysia were collected through mask making and pamphlets were distribution to the public. The students celebrated a kite festival by colouring kites of different countries. Information on places of worship was gathered and models of houses from different countries were showcased. The most interesting project of all was the philately exhibition where stamps and coins of various countries were collected by the students. Moreover, information on currencies of countries were acquired and explored through powerpoint presentations. There was also a guest lecture by Krishnan, an NRI from Japan. He spoke about intelligence that Japanese people are known for. On the whole, the venue was buzzing with activity trying to create knowledge, which, was the main idea behind the activities of the school.
