An astonishing scene unfolded in Kota, Rajasthan, when a 7-foot long snake was observed swallowing a smaller snake of its own species, only to regurgitate it moments later in front of a stunned crowd. The incident is notable, as it is rare for a snake to hunt another and have the latter survive.
Snake catcher Govind Sharma informed Local 18 that he received reports of a snake consuming another. Upon arrival, he discovered the larger snake, from Dhaman species, which had consumed over half of the smaller snake, measuring approximately 2.5 to 3 feet. The presence of onlookers likely startled the larger snake, prompting it to eject the smaller snake. Fortunately, the smaller snake suffered only minor scratches and was safely rescued and released.
Sharma explained that the smaller snake typically resided in trees and fed on bird eggs. As a non-venomous species, its bite is not life-threatening to humans, although it can lead to infection. He urged the public not to harm snakes and instead contact a snake catcher for safe removal. These snakes did not attack unless provoked and posed no danger when left undisturbed, he added.
