HYDERABAD: The basic course training for the 64th batch of Indian Police Service Probationers was inaugurated by Union minister for home affairs Jitendra Singh SVP National Police Academy at Shivarampally here on Monday.Addressing the trainees, the minister said the rights of the citizens as guaranteed by the Constitution must be respected and are to be made a blueprint of their functioning in the service.He also called for a shift from authority-based policing to people-friendly policing.He congratulated young trainees on joining the police service. According to a press note, 145 IPS trainees including 21 women and five Nepalese police officers are attending the camp. VN Rai, director of the academy, spoke.Singh meets Botcha Later, Singh, , who is also a Youth Congress leader, visited Gandhi Bhavan and met PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana.Addressing Youth Congress activists, he called upon them to mobilise people’s support to strengthen AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.He also asked them to popularise UPA government’s programmes and policies.Speaking to reporters later, Singh said the Congress and the government remained committed to their earlier stand on Telangana. AICC secretary P Sudhakar Reddy and several others attended.
