BHUBANESWAR: Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj on Friday unveiled the second traffic unit at Chandrasekharpur and said the new unit will be of great help to the area which has witnessed rapid urban growth.The centre of major IT companies, technical institutes and residential colonies, Chandrasekharpur necessitated a traffic unit, he said.The DGP cited the example of Hyderabad Commissionerate System where traffic, law and order and crime have been separated and said plans are afoot to segregate the urban police district (UPD) into three territories where specific wings will be assigned to senior officers. Territorial DCPs will posted there.Currently, man power shortage has restrained the segregation but it will be completed in the near future. Commissioner of Police Bijay Kumar Sharma said the urban policing system which was the DGP’s brain child is getting appreciation from various States.The Chandrasekharpur Traffic Unit, located at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station, will be manned by an Inspector-ranked officer KP Mishra. It will have 30 personnel at its disposal. Part of Nayapalli and Nandankanan Police Stations apart from Infocity and Chandrasekharpur will come under its jurisdiction.
