BANGALORE: Members of the Trade Union Coordination Centre are unhappy with their Sunday leisure being taken  away as a result of the staggered holidays being announced for industries across Bangalore. In a press conference on Saturday, they stated that the Government had not consulted them before implementing staggered holidays.“They must have discussed it with the Labour Ministry before approving. Our life is getting disrupted as a result of a decision taken by a public sector company in connivance with industry representatives,”said G R Shivashankar of the Trade Union Coordination Centre. He added that workers must be compensated for staying on duty on a Sunday.“The IT/BT and public sectors have kept Sundays for themselves while making us work. Let them also take other weekly offs. We also have plans on Sunday, all our household work is getting affected,” said Shivashankar. The organisation also wants the government to commit to a timeframe for staggered holidays. The immediate demand being made by the Trade Union Coordination Centre is for the Government to consult them before implementing staggered holidays. They will be assembling on November 16 outside the KEB office in order to protest against the unilateral decision taken by BESCOM and industry associations.
