Chennai: The family of a 12-day-old baby girl who died on Sunday at the Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children here was shocked when they were given her body with a portion of her face missing. The premature baby had been kept in the incubator till it died, which is why the family was shocked to see the bite marks on its tiny face.
When a nurse allegedly informed that the marks must have been made by a rat, outrage and protests followed until the body was sent for autopsy at the Government Royapettah Hospital. Sources at the hospital that conducted the preliminary examination told Express that there were “bite marks from some rodent”, possibly even a bandicoot.
The first child of Ranjith Kumar and Manju, the girl was born on August 15. Doctors told Ranjith that there were complications due to the premature birth and that the baby would have to be kept in an incubator in the ICU.
