CHENNAI: Three boys and three girls of the Shri Sadhumarki Jain Sangam in Chennai will be taking the Jain Bhagawathi Deeksha on October 31. All six are disciples of Acharya Ramlalji, guru of the Sangam.Harshid Chipat (19), Subahu Dhukat (18), Gagan Dhukat (17), Jayashree Parakh (28), Poorvi Chipat (23) and Payal Khadhiya (22) will be taking their deeksha, and following in the footsteps of their guru. They will give up all worldly pleasures and will not own any material possessions. They will own no more than two sets of clothes and will not use electricity. Besides, they will walk everywhere but without slippers.In recognition of their impending sacrifice, and to celebrate their dedication to their community and its ideals, a procession will be taken out from Sowcarpet to Prince Galada Gardens on EVK Sampath Salai on October 30. A gala function will be held at Prince Galada Gardens on that day where the six youth will be felicitated by P Jothimani, Judge, Madras High Court, and P Raja, ADGP of EOW, Chennai.SD Ugamchand, chairman of the organising committee, said in a press conference here on Saturday, “Those wishing to take deeksha will be observed and trained for three to five years before being accepted. So far, 206 people have taken the same vows. They will lead the most meagre of lifestyles, having left behind the world.”Champalalji Daka, all-India head of the Sangam, spoke about the tenets of Jainism and of the Sangam.
