In today’s modern era, there has been a notable decline in the reading habits of young people. A recent study revealed that the average human attention span decreased from 12 seconds in 2000 to just 8 seconds by 2015. To provide context, this is even shorter than the attention span of a goldfish, which is 9 seconds. Therefore, humans no longer have the attention span to go through a whole book. Recognizing this trend, the government has taken proactive steps by organizing book exhibitions across every district in Tamil Nadu. This initiative aims to reignite the passion for reading among the youth and the general public alike.
One such impactful event is currently underway in Coimbatore, located at the bustling Purukulam Mall, where the Unlimited Book Fair has set up a vibrant book exhibition. The exhibition has garnered significant attention by offering books at heavily discounted prices, making literature more accessible to all.
Visitors to the exhibition can explore a wide array of offerings, including brand-new releases and carefully curated second-hand books, all available for purchase. In addition to individual book sales, the organizers have introduced bundled packages priced competitively, catering to various preferences and budgets. This book fair differed from traditional ones by featuring boxes of various sizes instead of individual books. At this expansive event, the small box was priced at Rs 1,199, the medium at Rs 1,999, and the large at Rs 2,999. This approach not only promotes book ownership but also encourages reading as a shared cultural activity.
Running until July 14, this exhibition is a celebration of literary diversity, featuring works spanning genres such as fiction, poetry, and autobiographies in both Tamil and English. The inclusion of diverse literary works aims to cater to the interests and preferences of a broad audience, fostering a renewed appreciation for reading and storytelling.
