PUDUCHERRY: T Thiagarajan, the All India Namathu Rajyam Congress MLA of Bahour constituency, was sworn in as a minister in the N Rangasamy-led government at a function in Raj Nivas on Sunday.The function began with Chief Secretary M Sathiavathy reading out the President’s notification appointing Thiagarajan as a minister in the UT government.Lieutenant governor Iqbal Singh then administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at 11.05 am in the presence of Rangasamy, ministerial colleagues, top officials and the members of Thiagarajan’s family.However, Congress and DMK legislators were not present. Later, Chief Minister Rangasamy and other ministers led Thiagarajan to his office in the Assembly complex. The portfolios that the new minister would handle was yet to be announced.Earlier, Thiagarajan garlanded the statue of former AICC president and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K Kamaraj on Anna Salai before proceeding to Raj Nivas for the ceremony.Many villagers from the Bahour constituency arrived in small groups and greeted the minister after he assumed office.
