BANGALORE: The locality in and around Cantonment always paints a picture of antiquity. It takes us back to a world of black and white with the British guards stomping their authority and ancient buildings which stand tall in the sky even today. If it was 1898, a plague would have broken out in the area striking fear in people’s hearts. And now, the Cantonment Railway Station, Benson Town, Corporation are prospering carrying their legacy along with them. While the overflowing drain has not been a problem to contend with for a while now, travellers are tired of waiting for their buses without any shelter.Ever since Miller’s Road was shut down for use, Cantonment Railway Station junction took over as the place where people had to board and alight their buses. But now, with it having been more than three months since Miller’s Road has been closed, people are forced to wait for their buses in the scorching heat or the pouring rain.Buses which go towards Yeshwantpur and Mekhri Circle and take the Jayamahal Road stop at the left after MV Jayaraman Road. Here, with no shelter whatsoever, the wait for a bus can take its toll on the commuters.Vaibhavi, a student of Mount Carmel College, said, “I have to wait for a bus that is quite infrequent. Most of the time, the time at which I wait for it is around 12 pm or 1 pm when the sun is directly overhead.I do not see why we have to bear the brunt for the delay caused by the authorities.” Buses which travel towards Fraser Town and Coles Park take the road parallel to Thimmaiah Road. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corportation (BMTC) officials were seen trying to get the crowd to move towards the more sheltered station near the railway station. But the problem of buses not stopping at the designated stop leads to more hassles and people have to return once again to stand at the junction. With many stops in Bangalore having two or sometimes three bus shelters, the question arises on why a temporary shelter couldn’t be instated here by the authorities concerned.Murali, a bus traveler, remarked, “The Vasanthanagar bus stop has two shelters. The CSI stop too has two. I wish they had atleast considered putting up one here because the temperatures in Bangalore have been extreme recently.” Adding to the woes is the confusion created among people on where they are suppose to stand in order to catch a bus.A late night traveller, on the condition of anonymity, informed City Express that she had no idea where she was suppose to wait in order to catch a bus.Being new to the city, she said that she had to wait 15 minutes at the Vasanthanagar stop before realising she was standing at the wrong stop. A BMTC official said it was on the charts to bring about a shelter temporarily if the inconveniences increase.
