A soldier and a terrorist were killed after an encounter broke out between the Army and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Army launched a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kowut, Kupwara. The terrorists launched the attack on the troops on Wednesday. In the firefight, a soldier was injured and one terrorist was killed. However, the soldier succumbed to his injuries soon after.
The counter operations are currently underway, the Military’s Chinar Corps said in a statement on X.
“Based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice on days leading upto 23 July 24. On 24 July, suspicious movement was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO injured. Operation is in progress,” it said.

Earlier on Tuesday, another in infiltration attempt by terrorists was foiled by the Army in Battal sector, in which a soldier was injured in the exchange of fire, and later succumbed to injuries.
On Monday, a soldier and a civilian were injured as security forces foiled twin terror attacks on an Army post and the house of a Village Defence Group (VDG) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
