Temple elephants get festival feast

UDHAGAMANDALAM: Pongal was celebrated exclusively for temple elephants participating at the 45-day rejuvenation camp at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve on Sunday. The health camp for these pachyderms was inaugurated on December 15.HR&CE Joint Commissioner Rajamanickam and Additional Commissioner Dhanapalan inaugurated the celebrations. The elephants were given sweet pongal, sugarcane and jaggery.This is the first time that Pongal was celebrated for temple elephants at Mudumalai. During the previous AIADMK regime, the rejuvenation camp started in November and ended in December.
