BANGALORE: Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions, thus goes a saying. Teachers carve the next generation that builds the society. City Express checks with the heads of various civic agencies of Bangalore who are designing and developing Bangalore and asks them how their teachers shaped them. I am fortunate enough to get the best teachers. I feel lucky to be taught by them. At Harohalli Primary school in Kanakapura taluk, I had a teacher named Ramanjaneya Iyengar who had all the qualities that a great human being should have. He treated us like his children. Later during high school, Kempachar who taught me Social Studies, and Srikanta who taught me Kannada are unforgettable. I used to hate Algebra and because of my teacher, H S Ramachandra, not only did I start loving the subject, but also started teaching Maths to my classmates. Our teachers loaded me with knowledge, which is coming to my rescue today.— H Siddiah, BBMP Commissioner Whenever I think of my school days, I always remember Nanjudiah master of Sarvodaya school in Tumkur. He was our headmaster who was known for discipline. He was a very punctual man. He not only used to dress very neatly, but also made sure that his students followed his footsteps. He is alive today and is more than 85 years old. I am in touch with him and met him after I took over as Bangalore Police Commissioner— B G Jyoti Prakash Mirji, Bangalore City Commissioner There was Prof Iqbal who was the Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan University. He used to teach me Political Science during my bachelor’s degree. He later made me pursue Political Science for my masters too. I took the same subject for my civil service entrance exam and became an IAS officer. He has inspired me a lot— Bharath Lal Meena, BDA Commissioner I owe a lot to my English teacher, T V Chandrashekar, who was teaching me at Municipal High School in Arkalagud taluk of Hassan District. He made all of us develop an interest in English and used to take special classes after school. It is very difficult to find such dedicated teachers. He had the same spirit on his last day before retiring. I am happy to say that I am in touch with him— K R Sreenivas, Managing Director, BMTC Prof Partha Sarathy who used to teach me Anatomy during my second year MBBS is an icon for all of us. He used to draw anatomy pictures which were much better than printed books. It is a difficult subject. But he used to take special classes after our class hours. Another teacher is Prof Nagabhushanaswamy. During my house surgency days in Bowring hospital, Prof Swamy used to come at 11 in the night and treat us to ice creams, and we used to discuss medicine till 2 pm. I am fortunate to be in touch with Prof Swamy even today— Dr N PrabhudevVice Chancellor, Bangalore University
