‘We Support Dialogue And Diplomacy, Not War’: PM Modi At BRICS Event
PM Modi said there was no room for double standards in case of serious issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a BRICS event in Russia’s Kazan, said India supported dialogue and diplomacy and not war. He called for global resolve and unity against terror funding and violence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the 16th BRICS Summit on Wednesday, a day which will see him participating in meetings of the grouping in narrow and expanded formats but also holding significant bilateral discussions, including with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the closed plenary session of the summit, themed ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security’, PM Modi said, “We support dialogue and diplomacy, not war. Just as we collectively overcame challenges like Covid, we are fully capable of creating new opportunities for a safe, empowered, and prosperous future for the next generation.”

CALL FOR GLOBAL UNITY AGAINST TERRORISM

Calling for global unity against terrorism, the PM said there was no room for double standards in such serious issues.

He said, “To combat terrorism and terror financing, we must work together with resolve and unity. There is no room for double standards on such serious issues. We must actively take steps to prevent radicalization among the youth of our countries. We need to work together on the pending issue of the comprehensive convention on international terrorism at the United Nations.”

He said BRICS partners should raise their voices collectively for reform in global institutions.

“We need to move forward promptly for reforms in global institutions such as the UN Security Council, Multilateral Development Banks, and the WTO. While advancing BRICS’s efforts, we must ensure that this organization does not create an image that we want to replace global institutions rather than reform them,” he said.

Call for safe use of AI

PM Modi said nations should work towards global regulations for cybersecurity and safe, secure artificial intelligence.

“In this age of technology, new challenges such as cybersecurity, deepfakes, and disinformation have emerged. There are high expectations for BRICS in this context,” he said.

PM Modi welcomed the new members to the Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRICS) summit and appreciated Russian President Vladimir Putin for his successful leadership.
